American Karate Academy

Master Instructor Clark has trained continuously for over 40 years in Martial Arts. He holds numerous Black Belts and Instructorships. His curriculum combines the best of history and tradition with multiple systems to produce a high caliber martial artist.

Master Clark is one of many instructors who bring their knowledge to the Academy. We share and grow through the experiences of our Martial Family. Our curriculum has been tested and vetted extensively. It has been the model for many other programs and courses throughout the country. We expect to continue to learn and develop our Academy as we train with other seasoned Masters from around the world. It has been our custom to teach all classes in English to reduce the confusion of various terms. We use terminology for the advanced students when there is no English term for a particular movement. We are a self defense school. We do not teach or promote tournament competition. There are competitors among our students who receive additional training if they choose. It is our goal to prepare you for life challenges or stressors and how to react to each. We are focused on martial development of the person and our program.

We encourage you to learn not only how to do something but also why it is done a particular way.

Specifics:

Our core program is Shotokan Karate and its Katas (Japanese forms). We use kicking and striking techniques from Tang Soo Do and Hapkido(Korean Self Defense systems). Our grappling skills are a combination of Machado, Gracie, Du Mog (Brazilian and Indonesian Grappling). For close quarters grappling we use Chi Na and small circle Ju Jit Su. The weapons training that we do come from Kali and Kubodo systems of combat (Philippine and Japanese weapon systems). Our trapping and evasive maneuvers come from Wing Chun and Aikido (Chinese and Japanese systems of defense).
